Zijin Continental Gold sued the Colombian state for failing to guarantee safety

Chinese mining company Zijin Continental Gold has sued the Colombian state for failing to guarantee safety conditions at its Buriticá mine, where the company has reported attacks and operational problems.

According to known information The nation has already been informed of the international arbitration that is related to the attacks that prevented the functioning of society.

This happened after the Swiss mining company Glencore also filed a complaint, in which Prodeco appears as a co-plaintiff in the process.

It is worth recalling that in May this year, the mine was the victim of a cylinder bomb attack by illegal miners, which left two dead and about 14 injured.

Although a safety council involving local and national authorities was convened the next day, the company reported another attack on the mine a few days later.

At the end of May, shots were fired at the workers, during which one person was injured in the mine. Because of this, the Chinese mining company decided to evacuate the workers to ensure their safety.

After that, other attacks with firearms were reported in the facilities of the Buřiticá mine.

“As we have expressed to the public opinion, the national government and the various branches of public authority in the country, the intervention of the Buritica mine is urgent.”the company assured at the time.

The Colombian Mining Association has warned that safety conditions for mining have worsened and therefore called for operational conditions to be secured.
