The universe is vast and expanding. While this seems like it would allow us to end up with more things to observe, it is actually the exact opposite. Thanks to its expansion, the observed universe will represent an ever smaller part of the cosmos.
- There are currently two different ways of measuring the expansion of the universe, or the Hubble constant, from background cosmic rays and ceifed stars;
- First, there is a gap of 370 thousand years after the Big Bang, and from its analysis we can define how much it expanded, about 67.5 kilometers per second per megaparsec;
- The second method uses variable stars, where we can easily measure their distance, and continuous observations show how fast they are and consequently the expansion of the universe, about 73 kilometers per second per megaparsec.
This discrepancy between the two methods is one of the two biggest problems in physics today, regardless of what the correct rate of expansion is as the observed universe continues.

The universe observed and expanded
The number of objects we can observe in the Universe is limited to those whose light is visible to us. If we don’t expand as time goes by, the universe would be more and more visible to Terra, the universe would be observed more efficiently.
Not so as we grow, the distance between Terra and all the other stars also increases, with the more distant ones disappearing from our view faster and faster. Assim, the universe observes diminui as the universe expands.
A little verified hypothesis, but in a fun way, it suggests that the observed Universe is bigger than the Universe itself. As the magnitude of time idealizes, the light emitted by objects could reach us in different directions. This means that in a flat universe we might observe objects at the far reaches of the cosmos when we are actually visualizing in the light of a nearby object (or closer) coming from another direction.
Although interesting, there is no evidence to support this theory, the observed universe is probably smaller than the remaining two cosmoses that we will never see.
