The Civil Guard just received a batch of ten models of underwater drones Gladius Mini S with a 4K UHD camera. The presentation of the material took place in Port of Valencia.
The underwater drones will be delivered to various fiscal and border units in Valencia, Barcelona, Bilbao, Malaga, Vigo, Algeciras, Puerto de la Luz, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Alicante and Santander.
The acquisition of this new equipment aims to strengthen the capacity of the Civil Guard in the field of preventing and prosecuting the smuggling of all types of illegal products in a context increasingly characterized by the improvement of organizational concealment techniques.
Above all, adds the Civil Guard, in vessels that arrive at European Union ports, using the various hidden spaces they have, both above and below the water surface.
The Civil Guard thus increases its inspection capabilities in this type of environment, thereby strengthening the security of our external borders against all types of threats and especially against smuggling.
The new underwater drones will make it possible to carry out a greater number of inspections on the hulls of ships and thus complement the function performed by the inspection units. Fiscal and border analysis and investigation of the civil guard (Udaiff).
These units carry out risk analyzes at the borders, which will enable the deployment of said teams whenever necessary. With the use of drones, GEAS would become relevant when needed, A group of special underwater activities.
Likewise, these drones aim to increase the protection of ports and maritime traffic through security-oriented reconnaissance.
The purchase of this equipment is 80% covered by the aid program EUAF 2021 (Union Anti-Fraud Programme) of OLAF of European Union and the remaining 20% by the Civil Guard.
