President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, was booed by the union this Monday when I visited the University of Almería campus within inauguration of the new academic year 2023/24. A traditional event that the universities of the eight Andalusian provinces organize every year to welcome this stage.
The Andalusian Executive was convened in Almería, but it was not planned that a group of union members from the CC.OO Teaching Federation. from Andalusia, equipped with flags, megaphones and banners with the name “For a public and quality university” and “M. Bonillo, before you attack us, know us,’ They blame the arrival of the Andalusian president at the door of the building using the inauguration of this course.
What do the unions want from Juanma Moreno?
A group of trade unions demonstrated against the proposal for a funding model for universities, which will replace the one proposed under the previous government council (PP and Cs) submitted by the university department. A model that, according to CC.OO, “does not fulfill the commitment contained in the Social and Economic Pact to support Andalusia, as it does not establish any effective commitment to the economic future of the university system, such as sufficient funding for universities”, signed on March 13 with the unions, as Noticias Trabajo has learned.
Moreover, they disfigured the university department to use university salaries for electoral purposes and to decry the lack of annual calls for regional allowances, “unfulfilled since 2003 mainly by People’s Party governments”. The union believes that this situation deprives university workers of the salaries that correspond to them, thus favoring the implementation of private universities in Andalusia.
José Luis Martos García, Director of the University CC.OO Andalusia Teaching Federation, stated, real solutions which in this situation occur:
Keep the agreements
From CC.OO urge the compliance with the agreements signed in 2018 for employees of Andalusian public universities.
Pay arrears
They ask that the Andalusian government pay the arrears for administrative and service staff to this day.
Start a call
The aim of the unions is for the Andalusian executive to announce a call equalize all teachers and avoid inequalities.
The new university funding model modified by the Andalusian government: a “milestone”
The regional management, indifferent to the whistling of the trade union group, emphasized during the opening ceremony of the academic year additional injection of up to 14 million euros in the new funding model for universities so that they can “propose initiatives that are of interest to the whole of Andalusian society”.
A model is therefore being proposed that will enter into force in the period 2023-2027 to address certain needs of the public higher education system and which “will undoubtedly be a milestone”, Moreno Bonilla emphasized in his speech. AND a model based on the coordination, promotion and improvement of universities “by actively listening to the demands, facing their problems and shaping the talent of the young and not so young.”
He also highlighted the existence of a “multiannual investment plan focused on infrastructure and digitization”, which has basic funding for all public universities in Andalusia, program contracts, strategic project funding and equal funding. A model that, as the Andalusian president summed up, “allows us to end so many years of unfair underfunding”.
