One of the goals of the 2023 second regular meeting of the Metropolitan Development Council of the Valley of Mexico was for the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to be the trigger for progress towards the consolidation of the Santa Lucía Industrial Logistics Corridor.
During the meeting held at the facilities of the air terminal, in the municipality of Zumpango, coordination work was addressed to create a Metropolitan Zone Planning Program with an emphasis on AIFA, which will allow the creation of the Mexico City-Hidalgo- Industrial Corridor of the State of Mexico, as well as the integration of a common metropolitan agenda.
There, Governors Delfina Gómez Álvarez of the State of Mexico, Julio Menchaca Salazar of Hidalgo and Prime Minister of Mexico City Martí Batres Guadarrama agreed on the need to maintain orderly progress in the region, which includes a population of 21.9 million inhabitants divided into three entities.
In addition, the challenge to create coordinated solutions for priority issues such as the standardization of urban development policies, land use, mobility, industrial policies, education, housing, health and others must also be taken into account.
Progress was also seen on three major projects currently underway: the train that will connect AIFA to the old Buenavista station; an intercity train project from Toluca to Observatorio in Mexico City; a transportation system that will connect to the Elevated Trolleybus in Santa Marta Acatitla, and one that will connect the international airport to Pachuca, the capital of Hidalgo.
